We’ve been busy social butterflies these past 10 days. The Venice Wine Bar last Tuesday, the Dolce Vita on Thursday. Saturday was golf, then, Christmas afternoon hors d’oeuvres at Dutch’s and Jean’s home in Venice. Sam dropped in as well for a while, brought his guitar and played Christmas music (among others) for us. It’s been so nice catching up with all the folk we met last year – we’re starting to feel quite at home. (Hmm – time to move here or not? It’s tempting….)
This week it was the Dolce Vita on Thursday evening (it’s become a habit!). On Friday we played golf and were teamed up with a really nice couple. I played pretty well, and was quite pleased with myself. After golf it was a rush to get home, shower, then off we went to Cafe Venice, where Sam was playing a gig. Saturday afternoon (yesterday, New Year’s eve) we met up with a group of friends and their friends on Venice Beach, had wine, appetizers, fun and laughs and watched the sun set before driving back home for dinner.
Our New Year’s eve dinner was delicious. All home made, and we had great fun making it, too. Shrimp bisque to start with (yummy), then a pause while I cooked a lemon risotto and Russ cooked soft-shell crab (double yummy). This was followed (after yet another pause) by a Key Lime pie that Russ made, and boy, was that good! Calories? What’s is that? A lovely bottle of Australian white wine was drunk, we watched the ball drop in Times Square (New York), on TV, then off to bed at 1:30am. Slept well.
Golf tomorrow. Dutch (remember, the Christmas afternoon mentioned above?), Tim (another buddy of ours), Russ and me. Should be fun!
I hope the New Year will be even better for everyone than 2011 was. Here’s wishing you all health and happiness.
